Flower and the Rain was written by Trevor John 'Nemo Guru' Rintoull during a period of intense religious inspiration. At the time 'Nemo Guru' described the song as merely "an expression of the yearning of a broken heart following a broken romance". However, for those who knew him at the time, the lyrical imagery is reflective of other topics he wrote and spoke about at length, in particular, the image a spiritual devotee waiting for his Lord to give him grace and salvation, the purest love of all - divine love. Regardless of the object of adoration, one thing is certain: Flower and the Rain is a love song.
Jimmy chose to record Flower and the Rain due to its yearning, and its depth. It is his favourite, and also his grandmother's favourite of all of Trevor's John's musical works. In this choice, Jimmy also honours his grandmother. Due to an intuition of call and response felt within the lyrics, Jimmy went in search of a female vocalist to sing back the second verse, creating a classic tale of lovers speaking to each other of their love, across great distances of time and emotion. Similarly to the story of the song itself, Jimmy found himself yearning for the right singer for the song, and the production of the EP was significantly delayed, until actress, musician and stunning vocalist Logan Dove heard the track and agreed to be one of two voices of longing. Her subtle yet powerful interpretation, coupled with strings by Cye Wood, completed a vision of how a decades' old song should have sounded in its time - and now, finally, that vision was realised.
lyrics
The sun shines not as warm, now you've gone away
And the breeze no longer gentle, because you would not stay
In the lonely empty nights, bring memory, tears and pain
But I wait here for you my love, like a flower waits for the rain
Yes I wait here for you my love
Like a flower waits for the rain
Like a flower waits for the rain
My dreams and thoughts drift back, to the days we had together
And sometimes my heart decries, and I wish time had stopped forever
In the lonely empty nights, bring memory, tears and pain
But I wait here for you my love, like a flower waits for the rain
Yes I wait here for you my love
Like a flower waits for the rain
Like a flower waits for the rain
Oh rain, rain, rain
Sweet pain, pain, pain
Like a flower waits for the rain
Said I wait here for you my love, like a flower waits for the rain
Said I wait here for you my love
Like a flower waits for the rain
Like a flower waits for the rain
Oh rain, rain, rain
Sweet pain, pain, pain
Like a flower waits for the rain
